•••President vows to intensify crackdown on insurgency sponsors, says over 13,000 terrorists have been neutralised
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that individuals and groups financing terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria will face severe consequences, reaffirming his administration’s determination to end insecurity across the country.
In his Democracy Day address marking Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, the President said the Federal Government would intensify efforts to dismantle terror networks and bring those providing financial and logistical support to insurgents to justice.
Tinubu stated that the nation’s security forces had recorded significant successes in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes, revealing that more than 13,000 terrorists had been neutralised while over 124,000 insurgents and their family members had surrendered in the past three years.
According to the President, the decline in terror-related attacks across several parts of the country demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing military operations and the commitment of security agencies to restoring peace and stability.
He warned that those sponsoring acts of terror would “pay dearly” for their actions, stressing that his administration would not relent until every part of the country is secure.
Tinubu also paid tribute to the heroes of democracy and urged Nigerians to remain united in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The President called on citizens, especially the youth, to remain hopeful and contribute meaningfully to nation-building, saying that the future of the country depends on the collective efforts of all Nigerians.
