The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected Akinteye Babatunde Afeez of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) as its new national president.
Akinteye emerged victorious at the association’s national convention, securing the mandate to lead Nigeria’s student body at a time of heightened calls for improved welfare, institutional reforms, and stronger engagement with government authorities.
The new NANS president, who previously served in key leadership positions within the association, is expected to bring his experience in student activism to bear in uniting various factions within the body and strengthening its national structure.
In his acceptance remarks, he pledged to prioritize unity among students across the country and to advocate for policies that will improve academic conditions, funding, and general welfare in tertiary institutions.
He further emphasized the need for a more coordinated and effective student voice in national discourse, promising to sustain engagement with relevant stakeholders on issues affecting Nigerian students.
Akinteye’s emergence marks a new phase in the leadership of NANS, with expectations high among students for impactful representation and reforms across campuses nationwide.
