Fresh crisis has erupted within the African Democratic Congress following the dissolution of the David Mark-led National Working Committee by the faction loyal to Dumebi Kachikwu.
The faction formally declared Kachikwu as its presidential candidate ahead of the next general election while inaugurating a new National Working Committee for the party.
At the inauguration ceremony, the group unveiled a new leadership structure with Kingsley Oggah appointed as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, while Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir emerged as National Chairman.
Other members of the newly constituted National Working Committee include Johnny Tovie Derek as National Secretary, Kennedy O. Odion and Joe Aroh as National Treasurers, Chris Ugwu as National Legal Adviser, Alias Adiku as National Organising Secretary and Patrick Ambut as National Chief Whip.
The faction explained that the dissolution of the former leadership became necessary to reposition the party and restore internal democracy within its ranks.
The latest development is expected to deepen the leadership crisis within the ADC as the camp loyal to former Senate President David Mark has yet to officially react to the announcement.
Political analysts believe the emergence of Kachikwu as presidential candidate alongside the inauguration of a parallel National Working Committee could trigger fresh legal and political battles over the authentic leadership of the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
