A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Alade, has called on party members and supporters to embrace political maturity and remain united following the conclusion of the party primaries.
Alade, who reacted to the growing tension and disagreements trailing the emergence of candidates in some constituencies, warned against actions and statements capable of causing division within the party ahead of future elections.
According to him, democracy thrives on competition, dialogue, and collective responsibility, stressing that no individual has a monopoly of political power or influence.
Alade who was also an aspirants representing Okitipupa/ Irele federal constituency noted that while it is normal for aspirants and their supporters to feel disappointed after losing in a contest, such disappointment should not translate into bitterness, attacks on the party, or anti-party activities.
“Politics should never be seen as a do-or-die affair. The strength of every political party lies in its unity and ability to accommodate different interests after every contest,” he said.
Alade maintained that party primaries are designed to produce candidates through a democratic process, adding that not everyone seeking elective positions can emerge victorious at the same time.
He urged aggrieved members to channel their grievances through legitimate internal mechanisms rather than engaging in public confrontations capable of weakening the party’s structure.
The APC stalwart further cautioned supporters against spreading inflammatory comments on social media, saying such actions only fuel unnecessary tension and create opportunities for opposition parties to capitalize on internal disagreements.
He emphasized the need for reconciliation among party stakeholders, aspirants, and loyalists, noting that the collective interest of the party should supersede individual ambitions.
Alade also commended party leaders working behind the scenes to foster peace and reconciliation, urging them not to relent in ensuring that all members feel carried along in the political process.
“As progressives, we must understand that victory for one candidate is victory for the party as a whole. What is most important is preserving the unity, stability, and future of the APC,” he stated.
He appealed to members to remain committed to the ideals of the party and continue supporting its leadership at all levels, expressing confidence that unity and cooperation would position the party for greater success in future elections.
