The Ondo State Government has directed the immediate fumigation of the Igbokoda River and the distribution of health kits to local residents following complaints of a foul odor stemming from last week’s Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa issued the directive to the State Ministries of Environment and Health to mitigate potential disease outbreaks, as the river remains a critical source of livelihood for Igbokoda and nearby communities.
In addition to the fumigation, the affected ministries have been tasked with supplying nose masks and essential medical kits to protect community members from health hazards.
To ensure uninterrupted access to clean water, Governor Aiyedatiwa instructed the Ilaje Local Government to organize water tankers to supply potable water continuously should testing confirm severe pollution in the river.
The governor reaffirmed Ondo State’s dedication to assisting the NAF in its ongoing evacuation operations while prioritizing the safety and well-being of the local populace.
