The Chairman of Akure North Local Government, Hon. Ogunnbolude Johnson, has officially flagged off a Cocoa Revolution Programme aimed at empowering farmers and boosting agricultural productivity across the local government area.
The initiative, which forms part of his campaign promises, is designed to support farmers with improved cocoa seedlings produced by the Department of Agriculture to enhance yield and strengthen the local economy.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Johnson expressed satisfaction with the progress of the programme and urged farmers to take full advantage of the opportunity to improve their output and livelihoods.
As part of the agricultural drive, the council chairman also conducted an inspection visit to a tomato farm within the area, where he actively demonstrated the harvesting process. The visit highlighted the administration’s commitment to hands-on support for local farmers.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Hon. Jenyo Martins; Supervisory Councillor for Works, Mrs. Adufe; the Head of Local Government Administration; and the Director of Agriculture, Mr. Owolabi, among others.
The Director of Agriculture commended the chairman’s efforts in revitalising the agricultural sector and pledged the department’s continued commitment to achieving the programme’s objectives.
The initiative is expected to significantly enhance cocoa production and encourage wider agricultural participation across Akure North.
