Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued the wife of a late senior military officer during a sustained anti-banditry operation in Katsina State.
The rescue followed a coordinated offensive by ground forces and air components targeting criminal hideouts in parts of the state under ongoing security operations in the North-West.
Military authorities said the victim was found during clearance operations after troops engaged armed bandits in a fierce encounter, forcing the criminals to abandon their captives and flee into nearby forested areas.
The rescued woman was immediately evacuated to a military medical facility for treatment and observation, where she is reportedly responding to care.
Security sources disclosed that the operation also led to the destruction of several bandits’ camps and logistics bases used for kidnapping and armed attacks across surrounding communities.
The Nigerian Army said the offensive is part of intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region and restore security to affected areas.
Meanwhile, residents have been urged to remain calm and continue to support ongoing security operations by providing credible intelligence to assist troops on the ground.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations until all criminal elements are flushed out of their hideouts across Katsina and adjoining states.
