National leader and former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator, Seriake Dickson, has cautioned supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi against disparaging the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leaders while claiming to support the party’s platform.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time Show, Dickson dismissed claims that Obi’s supporters were doing the NDC a favour by backing its presidential ticket, insisting that the party had established itself and attracted prominent politicians long before Obi and other opposition figures joined.
According to the senator, the party leadership willingly handed its presidential ticket to Obi and his running mate without demanding any payment, saying the decision was based on confidence in their candidacy.
“There is no one doing NDC a favour. Rather, the NDC and my colleagues are doing people a favour by granting our platform to them,” Dickson said.
He argued that suggestions that the party depended on Obi for relevance undermined the sacrifices of those who built the platform from the ground up.
Dickson also warned members of the Obedient movement against attacking the party or its leadership, describing such conduct as contradictory.
“You cannot be supporting Peter Obi and at the same time disparaging me, the leader, or the platform itself. That is nonsensical,” he stated.
The former governor further challenged critics who believe forming a political party is easy, urging them to establish and build their own platforms instead of belittling existing structures.
He maintained that the NDC had been attracting influential political figures from across the country months before Obi and other opposition leaders joined and called for greater respect for the party, stressing that no individual was indispensable to its survival.
