President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that corruption and economic crimes will face tougher resistance with the commissioning of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) new zonal office in Ado-Ekiti, describing the facility as a major boost to Nigeria’s anti-corruption architecture and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, Tinubu hailed EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and the Commission’s personnel for strengthening the country’s fight against corruption through improved institutional capacity and operational efficiency.
The President said the state-of-the-art facility along Old Iyin Road would enhance the Commission’s effectiveness in tackling economic and financial crimes in Ekiti and Ondo states, stressing that modern infrastructure and better welfare for law enforcement personnel are vital to national development and security.
Tinubu highlighted the agency’s recent successes, including the conviction of 192 foreign nationals involved in a cryptocurrency investment fraud syndicate, efforts against Ponzi schemes, and contributions to Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List.
He added that recovered assets had supported key government initiatives such as the Students Loan Scheme and Consumer Credit Scheme.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening anti-graft institutions, the President pledged improved welfare packages, operational independence and continuous training for personnel of anti-corruption agencies.
Earlier, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede described the commissioning as a landmark achievement that would close operational gaps and bring the Commission closer to residents of Ekiti and Ondo states.
He assured law-abiding citizens that they had nothing to fear from the agency, warning criminals involved in cybercrime, illegal mining and other economic offences that they would find no sanctuary within the jurisdiction of the new office.
Olukoyede also cited landmark convictions secured by the Commission, including those of former NEXIM Bank Managing Director Robert Orya and former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman, insisting that the EFCC would remain relentless in its pursuit of corrupt individuals.
Governors Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti and Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, traditional rulers, lawmakers and heads of security agencies were among dignitaries who witnessed the commissioning of the modern office complex equipped with workstations, holding facilities, staff canteens and other operational amenities.
