•••Akure North Chairman recognised as Icon of Excellence, Most Outstanding Grassroots Democratic
The Chairman of Akure North Local Government, Hon. Johnson Ogunbolude, has been honoured with the prestigious Golden Leadership Excellence Award by the Yoruba Study Group in recognition of his contributions to grassroots development and public service.
The award, which also conferred on him the titles of Icon of Excellence and Most Outstanding Grassroots Democrat for the 2025/2026 year, was presented during a ceremony held by the cultural organisation.
Presenting the award, the leadership of the Yoruba Study Group described Ogunbolude as an “Akoni Omoluabi,” praising his dedication, competence and visionary leadership in the administration of Akure North Local Government.
According to the group, the council chairman’s achievements in infrastructural development, staff welfare, agricultural advancement, youth empowerment and educational support have significantly improved the lives of residents and distinguished him as a model grassroots leader.
The organisation further noted that Ogunbolude’s people-centred approach to governance and commitment to sustainable development made him a worthy recipient of the honour.
Responding, Ogunbolude expressed gratitude to God and thanked the Yoruba Study Group for the recognition. He commended the organisation for its commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba culture, values and heritage.
The council chairman also advocated the reintroduction of Yoruba Language as a compulsory subject in schools, stressing the need to safeguard the cultural identity, traditions and heritage of the Yoruba people for future generations.
Founded in 2009, the Yoruba Study Group is dedicated to promoting Yoruba cultural values, indigenous knowledge and cultural awareness across Nigeria.
