More than 72 hours after the National Assembly primaries of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State on May 16th and 18th, 2026, uncertainty continues to trail the outcome as no final official winners have been declared for several seats in both the Senate and House of Representatives contests.
The delay has thrown the party into fresh tension, with many aspirants across the three senatorial districts and multiple federal constituencies laying claim to victory while awaiting final confirmation from the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The situation followed the decision of the party’s national leadership to halt the state electoral apparatus from releasing final results after reports of disagreements, disruptions and contestation over the collation process.
The move has left many aspirants and their supporters in suspense as the national body reviews reports from the field.Before the process was halted, some House of Representatives winners had already emerged at the state level.
Among those earlier announced were Omowunmi Olatunji for Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency, Olumuyiwa Daramola for Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, Abiola Makinde for Ondo East/Ondo West, as well as other candidates in some federal constituencies whose outcomes are now being scrutinized by the national secretariat.
The House primaries were marked by significant political shifts, with six incumbent lawmakers reportedly losing their bids to secure return tickets.
The development triggered reactions among party stakeholders, with some camps rejecting the process and accusing rival interests of influencing the outcome.
For the Senate, all aspirants across the three districts had earlier been screened and cleared to contest. In Ondo North, contenders included Olajide Ipinsagba, Adejoro Adeogun, Michael Abayomi Adeyanju and Gbenga Elegbeleye.
In Ondo Central, those cleared included Adeniyi Adebomire, Taiwo Fasoranti and Sylvester Adu. In Ondo South, aspirants included D.I. Kekemeke, Ajayi Agboola and Abdul Adetunyi.
Despite the conduct of the exercise, no final Senate results have been made public, creating a situation where several aspirants have begun celebrating victory, mounting congratulatory messages and mobilising supporters, even as the official declaration remains pending.
The prolonged delay has heightened political anxiety within the party, especially as supporters of various aspirants continue to mount pressure on the national leadership for the release of authentic results.
Party insiders say the national secretariat is expected to reconcile reports, address petitions from aggrieved aspirants and announce the final list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections.
As the wait continues, Ondo APC members say the outcome of the primaries has become one of the most contentious in the state’s political history, with no clear losers and no officially recognised winners nearly three days after voting while confident that the party will do better in the state house of assembly primaries.
