Dangote Industries Limited has begun community engagement in parts of Ogun State and Ondo State as part of plans to develop the proposed multi-billion-dollar Olokola Deep Seaport.
A delegation from the company visited host communities within the Olokola coastal axis to consult traditional rulers, community leaders and residents ahead of the commencement of surveys and preliminary project assessments.
The delegation, led by Capt. Jamil Abubakar, held meetings in communities including Ode-Omi in Ogun State and parts of Ilaje coastal communities in Ondo State, where discussions centered on land acquisition, environmental assessments and community participation.
Residents and local stakeholders reportedly welcomed the project, expressing optimism that the seaport would boost economic activities, create employment opportunities and open up the coastal corridor for industrial development.
The proposed seaport, to be located within the Olokola Free Trade Zone, is expected to support the export operations of the Dangote Group, including petrochemicals, fertiliser and refined petroleum products, while strengthening maritime trade infrastructure in the South-West region.
The company said the consultations are part of the initial steps toward full development of the seaport, which is projected to become one of Nigeria’s major deep-sea ports upon completion.
It will be recalled that dangote proposal to build a petroleum refinery in ondo state was rejected under the government of Dr Olusegun Mimiko before it was later built in Lagos free trade zone.
