Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will not adopt zoning arrangements in selecting its presidential candidate for future elections.
El-Rufai, who recently aligned with the ADC, said the party intends to allow all qualified aspirants to contest the presidential primaries without restricting the ticket to any particular region of the country.
According to him, the decision is aimed at promoting internal democracy and ensuring that the most competent candidate emerges through a transparent and competitive process. He stressed that the party is focused on merit, capacity, and national acceptability rather than regional considerations.
The former governor noted that ADC is positioning itself as a viable political alternative capable of fostering unity and inclusive governance across Nigeria. He added that the party remains committed to building a strong democratic culture that prioritises fairness and equal opportunity for all members.
El-Rufai also urged Nigerians to support political platforms that emphasise competence and national development, stating that leadership selection should be based on the ability to address the country’s challenges rather than ethnic or regional sentiments.
His comments come amid ongoing debates among political stakeholders over zoning and power rotation ahead of future electoral contests.
