The Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the declaration of Monday, February 2, and Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as public holidays across the state to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State.
The public holidays are intended to allow residents to actively participate in activities lined up for the Golden Jubilee celebration, which commemorates five decades of the state’s existence, growth, resilience and collective progress.
Governor Aiyedatiwa described the anniversary as a historic milestone that calls for reflection on the journey of Ondo State so far, while renewing commitment to unity, development and shared prosperity.
He urged citizens to use the opportunity of the holidays to take part in the celebrations, honour the sacrifices of past leaders and heroes, and recommit themselves to the vision of building a more prosperous, peaceful and united Ondo State.
The Governor, however, advised providers of essential services to make adequate arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service delivery throughout the holiday period.
Ondo State, created in 1976, joins other states in the federation in marking its golden jubilee with various commemorative programmes highlighting its history, achievements and future aspirations.
