Senegal stunned tournament hosts Morocco on Sunday to win the Africa Cup of Nations final, as Pape Gueye’s extra-time strike secured a dramatic 1-0 victory in a match overshadowed by controversy and unsavoury scenes.
The tightly contested final, played before a partisan crowd, appeared destined for penalties after 90 minutes ended goalless. However, tempers flared late in regulation time following a controversial penalty award to Morocco after a VAR review. The decision sparked heated protests from Senegalese players and officials, leading to a prolonged delay and disorder in the stands.
