The Bobaselu of Odigbo Kingdom, Chief Akindele Omole, FCA, on Monday boosted the recreational facilities of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, with the donation of a snooker board to the union.
The official handover ceremony, held at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure, witnessed journalists and union leaders commending the philanthropist for his continued support to the media community.
Speaking at the event, Chief Omole said the donation was part of his dedication to improving the well-being of journalists in the state. He noted that journalists play a vital role in informing and shaping society, stressing that providing them with a space to relax was a meaningful way to support their demanding profession.
The Chartered Accountant added that the gesture also reflected his commitment to strengthening the bond between the traditional institution and the media, acknowledging the importance of robust engagement with journalists.
Responding, the Chairman of the NUJ Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, expressed profound appreciation to the Bobaselu, describing him as a consistent friend and supporter of the union.
He said the snooker board would significantly improve the recreational offerings at the Press Centre, providing journalists with a healthy avenue to unwind.
Adegbite also encouraged other public-spirited individuals and organisations to emulate Chief Omole’s generosity and show similar support for the media.
The presentation ceremony was witnessed by members of the NUJ State Executive Council and other stakeholders.
The donation additionally marks the formal introduction of Billiards (Snooker) as one of the games lined up for the ongoing 2025 NUJ Press Week Games.
