The Ondo State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has cautioned youths across the state against participating in the proposed protest allegedly being championed by human rights activist, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, over the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement signed by Kadiri Adedoyin Olamilekan, Special Assistant on Media to the State NYCN, and released from the office of the Public Relations Officer, the council described the planned protest as “a recipe for chaos and disruption.”
The statement quoted the State Chairman, Comrade Babatunde Omomowo (Owoto), who called on youths to resist what he termed a “self-serving agenda masked as activism,” warning that such agitation could destabilize the peace and progress that Ondo State has long enjoyed.
“As peace-loving young people, Ondo State youths must rise above the lure of self-aggrandizement and needless confrontation. Our beloved Sunshine State has always been a symbol of calm, and we must not allow those who profit from disorder to drag us into unrest,” the statement read.
Referencing the wisdom of ancient strategist Sun Tzu, the council emphasized that true progress lies in restraint and dialogue, not in chaos.
“We must remember that violence and public disturbance have never built a nation; they only leave ashes where dreams once flourished,” it added.
The NYCN urged youths across the 18 local government areas of the state to reject the call to protest and instead channel their energy into constructive engagement and dialogue on issues affecting their future.
“Peace remains our banner in Ondo State, and progress our mission,” the council concluded.
