An observer has raised concern over the quality of materials being used in the ongoing construction of the Ore–Ondo expressway, alleging that substandard reinforcement rods may be in use on some part of the project.
The concerned citizen called the attention of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, to the development, urging him to order an immediate inspection to ensure that contractors comply strictly with engineering and safety standards.
He equally appealed to the Ondo State Government to launch its own investigation and intensify independent monitoring of the project through the state’s Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
According to him, such collaboration would help detect any compromise in material quality and safeguard public interest.
The observer warned that allowing the use of inferior materials could undermine the durability of the road and waste the Federal Government’s huge investment in the project.
He, therefore, emphasized the need for joint supervision between the Federal and State Governments to guarantee that the road meets the required construction standards and serves its purpose for years to come.
