The Ondo State Police Command has arrested one Abdullahi Saliu for impersonating a Colonel in the Nigerian Army and defrauding unsuspecting citizens through job racketeering schemes.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Akure. He said the arrest was part of the command’s achievements in tackling crime and fraudulent activities across the state.
According to Ayanlade, Saliu defrauded two women, Oshoade Janet and Daisi Remilekun Joy, by collecting ₦1,377,000 from them under the pretext of securing employment for their sons in the Nigeria Customs and Immigration Services.
“Investigations further revealed that the suspect’s operations cut across state lines, with victims traced to Edo, Delta, Kogi, and Ondo States,” Ayanlade said.
The spokesperson added that the suspect had long been on the police watchlist as a notorious job racketeer, known for impersonating senior officers of multiple security agencies, including the Army, Navy, Customs, and Immigration Service.
He noted that Saliu had already been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for prosecution.
Ayanlade reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and properties in the state while ensuring that fraudsters and criminally-minded individuals are brought to justice.
He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for providing the strategic direction that continues to inspire the command’s successes.
