The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the release of ₦350 million for the payment of the 2025 scholarship and bursary scheme to indigenes of the state in tertiary institutions across the country.
The intervention, which will benefit about 12,000 students, covers five categories of awards, including medical and law students, as well as students with disabilities.
This year’s package represents a boost from last year’s ₦335 million disbursed to 11,200 students. In 2024, Governor Aiyedatiwa had also doubled the annual bursary for students from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000, while students with disabilities received ₦75,000 each and scholarship beneficiaries ₦100,000 each.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education, Governor Aiyedatiwa described it as the cornerstone of development and a vital tool for unlocking the potential of young people.
“Many of our students face significant financial challenges in pursuing their academic dreams. That is why we have these bursary and scholarship awards, as well as financial assistance, to provide support, alleviate financial burdens, and enable our students to focus on their studies,” the Governor said.
“These awards are a testament to our commitment to investing in the future of our State and our country. We must ensure that our students have access to quality education and the necessary support to excel in their academic pursuits.”
The approval comes barely two weeks after the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) commenced the 2023/2024 scholarship and bursary payments, benefiting 4,837 indigent students from its mandate areas.
