U.S. President Donald Trump has stated he may consider deporting billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk following the latter’s criticism of Trump’s key spending bill.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump was asked whether Musk, the South African-born CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, could face deportation. His response: “I don’t know. We’ll have to take a look. We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.”
Musk recently stepped down from his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an office created by the Trump administration. Since then, Musk has openly opposed the President’s bill, particularly provisions affecting electric vehicle incentives.
Trump suggested Musk’s criticism stems from the removal of support for EVs in the new bill, saying, “He’s losing his EV mandate. He’s very upset about things, but you know, Elon can lose a lot more than that.”
The comments mark a new low in the increasingly hostile relationship between Trump and Musk, two of the most influential figures in American politics and business.
