As Ogun State gears up to host the 2024 National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games,” Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, popularly known as Omoyayi, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, has donated press kits and ICT support tools worth millions of naira to the Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The donation was made to support the association ahead of the festival, scheduled to take place from May 16 to 30.
Senator Salisu described the gesture as part of his legislative contribution, aimed at easing the work of sports journalists and ensuring robust coverage of the national event.
Led by Chairman Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, the enthusiastic SWAN members commended the initiative, describing it as a “partnership in progress.”
Senator Salisu emphasized the vital role of sports writers in promoting national unity through extensive media coverage. He also promised continuous engagement with the association during and after the event.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government has assured of delivering the most remarkable sports festival in the 52-year history of the competition, with major events set to hold at MKO Abiola Sports Complex and Alake Sports Centre.
Over 15,000 athletes are expected to compete in 549 events, with a total of 2,150 medals , 626 gold, 626 silver, and 898 bronze up for grabs, making it one of the biggest editions yet of Nigeria’s Olympic-style event.
