Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has expressed dissatisfaction over the state of development in Akure, describing the capital city as one that has suffered neglect over the years.
The governor, who spoke on Thursday, September 10, 2025, at the flag-off of the construction of 32 units of four-bedroom terraced residential buildings for members of the State Executive Council in Alagbaka, said his administration was determined to reposition Akure into a modern city befitting of its capital status.
He explained that the ongoing urban renewal projects in Alagbaka would be extended to other parts of Akure, noting that major road networks such as Ijoka Road and the Irese flyover would receive priority attention.
“This project is significant because it not only addresses the challenge of inadequate government quarters for top officials but also signals our broader commitment to transform Akure into a world-class capital. Akure has been left behind for too long, and our administration is determined to change that narrative,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
The governor further disclosed that plans were underway to roll out an affordable housing scheme for civil servants across the state, while assuring that similar housing projects would be extended to members of the legislature and judiciary.
He added that the initiative aligns with his administration’s OUR EASE agenda, aimed at driving infrastructural renewal, strengthening the welfare of government functionaries, and preparing Akure for a comprehensive urban upgrade.
