The Ondo State chapter of Grassroots Mobilisation for Tinubu (GMT) on Thursday flagged off a free medical outreach in Akure, offering vital health services to hundreds of residents under its community health programme tagged “Jigi Asiwaju.”
Held at the GMT Secretariat in Akure, the outreach featured free eye examinations, blood pressure and blood sugar tests, drug distribution, and provision of eyeglasses, all at no cost to beneficiaries.
Director General of GMT in the state, Mr. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, said the initiative is aimed at complementing federal and state government efforts to provide accessible healthcare for people at the grassroots level.
“We are targeting 1,000 people today with free eye tests, glasses, and medications. This is just for the Central Senatorial District. We’ll be moving to Okitipupa for the South and Ikare for the North in the coming weeks,” he announced.
Yusuf-Ogunleye explained that the decentralisation of the outreach was necessary to reach underserved populations in remote areas such as Ilaje, Ese-Odo, and Akoko without forcing them to travel long distances for care.
He praised the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his unwavering support, describing him as a key enabler of GMT’s community-based health and empowerment programmes.
“We also plan to open GMT offices in all local government areas to bring our services even closer to the people,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, GMT Women Leader, Mrs. Olamide Falana, said the medical outreach aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s health-focused initiatives.
“We are complementing government efforts to improve healthcare access and ensure that the most vulnerable members of our society are not left behind. This is how we bring the President’s vision of inclusive governance to life,” she stated.
