Rising star and Plateau United forward, Temitope Vincent, is set to make his mark on the continental stage as Nigeria’s Super Eagles B kick off their campaign at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) against defending champions Senegal.
The much-anticipated Group D opener takes place on Tuesday at the 15,000-capacity Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, marking Nigeria’s return to the tournament after missing the last two editions. The Super Eagles B are eager to start strong in what is the only group with four teams, and all eyes will be on Vincent as one of the players to watch.
Vincent Temitope has been in red-hot form for Plateau United, currently leading the club’s goal contributions chart with nine involvements in all competitions. His consistent performances in the Nigeria Premier Football League earned him a spot in Eric Chelle’s 23-man CHAN squad, and the forward is now keen to replicate his domestic success on the international stage.
“This is a dream come true for me,” Vincent said ahead of the clash. “Wearing the green and white jersey is a huge honour, and I’m fully focused on helping the team achieve our goal of bringing the trophy home.”
Nigeria’s history at CHAN has been mixed. After winning bronze in 2014 and finishing as runners-up in 2018, the Super Eagles B failed to qualify for the last two tournaments. With renewed ambition and a squad blending experience and youthful energy, the team is determined to re-establish its presence on the continent.
Coach Eric Chelle has expressed confidence in the players, describing Vincent as one of the team’s key attacking assets. “Temitope has been impressive in training and brings pace, intelligence, and a goal-scoring instinct that can change games. We believe he’s ready for this stage,” Chelle said.
