President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of tenure for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward, Local Government, and State Executive Committees across the country until December 31, 2025.
This move was confirmed on Wednesday during a high-level APC meeting in Abuja, where Tinubu reiterated the party’s readiness to welcome more defectors ahead of the next convention, now rescheduled for December.
“More state governors are still coming, that’s why we shifted our convention to December,” President Tinubu stated. “Our doors are wide open and we must accommodate them all. They must be allowed to jump out from a wrecking ship and a coalition of confusion. Today, we have 23 governors, and very many more are still coming.”
In a major development at the same event, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and a technocrat from Plateau State, was officially sworn in as the new National Chairman of the APC.
Yilwatda’s emergence signals a fresh chapter in the party’s leadership, as APC intensifies its grassroots reorganization and prepares for an expanded political coalition heading into 2026.
The party leadership assured stakeholders that the extension of executive tenures at the grassroots level would ensure stability, cohesion, and continuity as the APC embarks on a broader consolidation drive nationwide.
