The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially constituted its National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections following weeks of internal deliberations and power-sharing negotiations. The inauguration marks a major milestone for the opposition party as it organizes its leadership hierarchy and grassroots apparatus for the upcoming polls.
Before reaching a consensus, the NDC faced notable structural hurdles during the council’s formation. Disagreements centered around balancing political interests across the coalition, with NDC National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson setting specific terms for taking up a central campaign role.
Dickson insisted on a balanced regional distribution of executive appointments, explicit operational autonomy for the campaign directorate, and guaranteed alignment between the party executive and the presidential ticket before finalizing the campaign architecture.
The resulting resolution produced a co-leadership structure to maintain harmony within the party’s rank and file. Under the agreed arrangement, Senator Seriake Dickson serves as Chairman of the National Campaign Council, while NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi takes on the role of Co-Chairman. NDC National Chairman Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe has been designated as Vice-Chairman, with vice-presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso acting as Co-Vice Chairman.
The operational arm of the council is headed by Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim as Director-General, supported by Council Secretary Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.
Furthermore, the Campaign Advisory Council is led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal as Chairman and former Ebonyi State Governor Senator Sam Egwu as Vice-Chairman.
With the council now fully constituted, the NDC stated that it will immediately shift its focus toward nationwide voter mobilization, emphasizing a people-centered and issue-based campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
