The Ondo State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the reported deaths of several residents across parts of Odigbo Local Government Area, including Odigbo, Araromi-Obu, and Orita New Town. The fatalities are suspected to be linked to possible poisoning.
Working alongside the Ondo State Government, the Ondo State Ministry of Health, and local health authorities, police personnel, including the Police Medical Services, are actively gathering evidence and collecting relevant information. Medical and toxicological examinations are currently underway to identify the precise substance responsible for the deaths.
In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or attributing the deaths to any specific cause while laboratory analyses remain ongoing. Authorities noted that the exact casualty figures and the official cause of death will be made clear as the investigation progresses.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain calm, assist law enforcement with relevant information, and avoid consuming unregulated or suspicious alcoholic and herbal mixtures. The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, assured the public of the Command’s commitment to uncovering the truth and prosecuting anyone found culpable, promising further updates as verified findings emerge.
