The Ondo State Government has increased its 2026 budget from N524.411 billion to N769.384 billion to accelerate critical infrastructure, road, water, and healthcare projects across the state.
Speaking after a State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire, stated that the upward revision was driven by the administration’s intensified infrastructure drive. The decision followed a mid-year assessment of the 2026 Appropriation Law, originally signed into law on December 29, 2025, and implemented on January 1, 2026. First- and second-quarter performance reports revealed that while several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) faced rising demands that exhausted their original allocations, others experienced slower fund utilization due to operational hurdles.
The revised budget, which has been submitted to the Ondo State House of Assembly for ratification, seeks to realign funding, bridge financial gaps, and optimize execution for the remainder of the year.
As part of this development drive, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa directed the construction of at least five kilometers of road in each of the 18 local government areas before the end of 2026, totaling a minimum of 90 kilometers.
The projects are designed to boost regional connectivity, facilitate the transport of agricultural goods, link rural communities to urban markets and essential services, and stimulate overall economic growth.
Additionally, the supplementary funding allocates capital for the Adegbola–St. Mathias flyover along Oba Adesida Road in Alagbaka, Akure. Development financing will also support projects aimed at expanding access to clean water and enhancing local healthcare service delivery.
Alongside infrastructural approvals, the State Executive Council confirmed key traditional chieftaincy appointments. Prof. Thompson Akinyele Akinifesi was approved as the pioneer Ekingbade of Bolorunduro in Ondo East Local Government Area.
Furthermore, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, announced the appointment of warrant chiefs to guide the selection of new traditional rulers, specifically the Olokun of Ikun Akoko, Olute of Ute, and Ekiri of Ero. Reaffirming the administration’s position, Commissioner for Information Mr. Idowu Ajanaku emphasized that Governor Aiyedatiwa remains dedicated to prioritizing community leadership stability and state-wide infrastructure expansion.
