Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have struck a double blow against violent crime in the state, dismantling a high-profile interstate armed robbery ring and halting what could have turned into a deadly communal clash over a land dispute.
The achievements were disclosed during a press conference in Akure by the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Felix Ohagwu. CP Ohagwu commended the strategic leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and acknowledged the continuous operational support provided by the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
In the first major breakthrough, police intelligence operatives intercepted a three-man armed robbery syndicate believed to be responsible for multiple violent operations across Ondo and Lagos States. The suspects, identified as Promise Daniel, 34; Ifeanyi Umahi, 29; and Adaramoye Abayomi, 37 , were apprehended on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
Their arrest followed a tracking operation tied to an earlier robbery case reported on June 14, 2026, at the Iju Division in Ita-Ogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area.
Operatives intercepted the gang while they were traveling in an ash-colored Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV. A thorough search of the vehicle yielded an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 18 rounds of live ammunition, an English-made Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, a UTC axe, and an iron cutter.
CP Ohagwu noted that the suspects, who have been on the command’s watchlist for a long time, made confessional statements during interrogation that are helping investigators track down additional fleeing gang members.
In a separate operation conducted on the same day, police forces averted a potential bloodbath in Adegbiji, near Kajola in Ondo State. Tensions escalated around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday over a disputed parcel of farmland involving two local figures, Akinsulu Titus and Ajani Abiodun, both of Ayetoro. Despite the matter being active before the High Court sitting in Ore, both parties reportedly attempted to enforce control over the land by force.
Prompt intervention by police operatives prevented a fatal clash, resulting in the arrest of seven suspects at the scene along with the recovery of firearms and other dangerous weapons.
CP Ohagwu assured residents that the Ondo State Police Command remains resolute in its proactive, intelligence-led approach to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining peace across all communities in the state.
