President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 Nigerians into the boards and leadership positions of 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions. The sweeping appointments, which take immediate effect, see former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, emerging as the new chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
In a statement released on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also appointed retired Major General Junaid Bindawa as the chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission.
Fayose will lead the newly constituted board of the REA alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were appointed as non-executive directors. They will serve with the incumbent Director-General of the agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors.
For the National Salary and Wages Commission, President Tinubu named eight other officials to work alongside Major General Bindawa. A former member of the House of Representatives representing Lagos, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was appointed as the commission’s secretary.
Additionally, Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian (Benue), Oladele Olatubosun (Oyo), and Yakubu Umar Barde (Kaduna) will serve as commissioners, while Dr. Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo), and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi) join as members.
The restructuring also affected the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), as its erstwhile Executive Secretary, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, has been redeployed to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to serve as its new Secretary.
Other key executive appointments include Dr. Abuh Mohammed as the Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Furthermore, a former council chairman, Engineer Julius Oloro, has been named the new CEO of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) based in Kwara State. Engineer Oloro fills the vacancy left by the former head, Dr. A.R. Kamal, who passed away in January.
President Tinubu also inaugurated the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), naming Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as its chairman. The board members include Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele, and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Meanwhile, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru takes over as the new Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education. He replaces Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) earlier in April.
Rounding out the 26 appointments, the President named economist and legal scholar Gisaor Vincent Iorja as the Executive Director of Finance at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
Iorja, who currently serves as the secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), replaces Mathias Byuan, who resigned from the FHA to pursue a governorship bid in Benue State.
According to the presidency, all 26 top-level appointments are geared toward revitalizing the affected federal institutions and are to be implemented with immediate effect.
