The Ondo State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the gruesome armed robbery that claimed the life of Mr. Clement Idris in Akure, while security operatives intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal gang.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Shagari area of Akure, where armed robbers reportedly invaded the victim’s residence.
According to the police, a resident of the area, Mr. Oluwatoyin, reported hearing a gunshot at about 1:00 a.m. before hearing the victim crying for help. He rushed outside and found Clement Idris lying in a pool of blood. Neighbours immediately evacuated him to the General Hospital, Akure, where doctors confirmed him dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers dragged the victim outside, inflicted multiple machete wounds on his head and chest, and later shot him in the neck before fleeing the scene.
Police detectives who visited the crime scene recovered several exhibits, including a lady’s handbag, a cross bag, a small Itel mobile phone and an expended locally made gun shell. Investigators said the recovered phone and one of the bags belonged to occupants of a neighbouring apartment who had earlier been robbed before the attackers targeted the deceased.
The Command disclosed that intelligence-led investigations have already led to the arrest of one suspect, while efforts involving forensic analysis and coordinated tactical operations are underway to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover the weapons used during the attack.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, assured residents that the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring all those responsible for the killing are arrested and brought to justice.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in apprehending the fleeing suspects.
