A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, be returned to the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the continuation of his ongoing trial.

Sowore is currently standing trial over allegations connected to statements made on social media, which prosecutors argue fall within offences covered under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.
His legal team is expected to seek further relief from the court as the case continues, while supporters and critics remain divided over the implications of the ruling on free speech and civic activism.
