The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers captured in a viral video displaying AK-47 rifles, ammunition and walkie-talkies while dressed in military camouflage.
The suspects, identified as Umar Babangida, 25, Adamu Yeti, 22, and Yahaya Idris, 24, are residents of Rijana in Kaduna State.
Addressing journalists, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, said the command immediately launched an investigation after the video surfaced online, ordering a forensic analysis to determine the origin of the footage and directing operatives to track down those involved.
According to the police chief, digital forensic intelligence and other actionable leads enabled investigators to trace the suspects to their hideout.
Acting on the information, operatives of the command carried out a coordinated raid on Runji Village in Zuba at about 3:22 a.m. on May 25, leading to the successful arrest of the three suspects.
CP Sanusi said the operation underscores the commitment of the FCT Police Command to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes, assuring residents that security agencies would continue to deploy intelligence driven strategies to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of lives and property within the territory.
