Tinubu Hails Rangers After Historic Ninth NPFL Title TriumphPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International FC following the club’s emergence as champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for a record ninth time.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the Enugu based club for finishing top of the league table with 68 points from 38 matches, ahead of closest rivals, Rivers United.
The President commended the players, coaching crew, management, and supporters of Rangers for what he described as an outstanding and historic campaign.
Tinubu also reflected on the glorious era of Rangers in the 1970s and 1980s, recalling the club’s achievements in domestic and continental football, including reaching the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975 and winning the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977.
He further congratulated Peter Mbah, stating that the success of Rangers International FC was a reflection of the Enugu State Government’s investments in youth development and sports.
“As one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest football players who made the country proud globally. I am proud of their achievement,” the President stated.
President Tinubu also praised Rivers United for their impressive performance and sportsmanship throughout the season, while wishing both clubs success as they prepare to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
