The Supreme Court of Nigeria has nullified the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, bringing a decisive end to the protracted leadership dispute within the party
In a split judgment delivered on Thursday, three out of five justices of the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction, ruling that it lacked merit.
The court held that the convention was conducted in violation of a subsisting order of the Federal High Court, which had restrained the party from proceeding with the exercise. It further described the action as an abuse of court process.
By its decision, the Supreme Court affirmed the earlier rulings of the lower courts, including the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, both of which had declared the convention invalid.
The judgment effectively voids all decisions and outcomes arising from the Ibadan convention, including the emergence of any leadership structure linked to the Turaki-led faction.
