The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri Erewa, has lashed out at supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing members of the Obidient movement as “vagabonds” in a strongly worded statement that has stirred reactions across the political space.
Dabiri-Erewa alleged that Obi, through his political movement, had emboldened a group of supporters whose actions, according to her, have become increasingly aggressive and intolerant of opposing views.
She warned that such a development could ultimately have negative consequences for the former governor’s political future.
The Obidients, a youth driven support base that gained prominence during the 2023 general elections, have been widely recognised for their active engagement both online and offline in support of Obi’s political ideals.
Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions, with critics condemning the language as inflammatory, while some supporters defended her position, citing concerns over the conduct of certain political supporters in public discourse.
