In a major gesture of political camaraderie and recognition of public service, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has renamed the landmark International Centre for Culture and Events (popularly known as The Dome) in Akure after former Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
The announcement was made by Governor Aiyedatiwa on Saturday during a birthday celebration organized in honour of the former governor in Abuja.
Following the governor’s declaration, the state-of-the-art event facility will henceforth be officially known and addressed as the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko International Centre for Culture and Events.
Dr. Mimiko, who served as the executive governor of Ondo State from 2009 to 2017, conceptualized and constructed the iconic centre during his administration as a hub for cultural heritage, major state events, and international conferences.
Speaking at the event, Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that the gesture was aimed at immortalizing Dr. Mimiko’s vision and contributions to the infrastructural and cultural development of Ondo State.
The announcement has since drawn commendation from political leaders and stakeholders, who described the immortalization as a well-deserved tribute to a leader who left an indelible footprint on the state’s landscape.
