The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has officially placed Cristiano Ronaldo under a non-automatic provisional suspension following an urgent disciplinary investigation. The action stems from the 41-year-old forward’s decision to walk out of the national team’s training camp during the international break.
The fallout occurred after a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus regarding playing time. Ronaldo expressed frustration over being left on the bench during a UEFA Nations League fixture and later criticized an “absolute breach of trust” in public remarks, though he subsequently issued an apology to his teammates and supporters and acknowledged that his actions warranted official review.
Under Article 160 of the FPF disciplinary regulations, an unjustified abandonment of national team duty carries a potential suspension ranging from one to six months. The Disciplinary Investigation Commission has classified the case as urgent while keeping ongoing proceedings confidential.
Despite the international setback, Ronaldo has returned to club duties with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, where he recently scored his 980th official career goal in a 3–0 victory over Diriyah. He has not announced any retirement from international football and hopes to return to the squad once the disciplinary process concludes.
