In a major boost to local agriculture and food security, the Chairman of Akure North Local Government Area, Hon. Ogunbolude Johnson, has distributed improved cocoa seedlings to 1,000 farmers across the council area.
The distribution exercise, which fulfilled one of the key agricultural promises of his administration, took place at the Akure North Local Government Secretariat Hall. The venue was packed to capacity as farmers gathered from various wards to receive their allocations.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Ogunbolude expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve, emphasizing that his administration remains dedicated to transforming the agricultural sector in the council area. He urged the beneficiaries to nurture the seedlings diligently, noting that significant local government funds were invested to secure high-yield inputs for them.
”This gesture is just a tip of the iceberg,” the Council Chairman stated. “Our administration has a robust pipeline of agricultural initiatives designed to support our farmers, boost local economic activity, and position Akure North as a major agricultural hub.”
Also speaking at the event, the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Hon. Adeniyi Olowere, commended the Chairman for his listening ear and proactive approach to farmers’ needs. He described Hon. Ogunbolude’s commitment to agricultural growth as unprecedented in the local government’s history.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Omolayo Adeoye described the initiative as the first of its kind in Akure North, praising the Council Chairman as a pacesetter whose intervention came at a critical time for local farm investments.
