Nigeria’s Super Falcons have landed in Rabat, making a striking statement in green-and-white traditional Adire attire as they set their sights on securing a record-extending 11th crown at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The ten-time African champions touched down in the Moroccan capital following a ten-day training camp in Casablanca, which wrapped up on a high note with a 2–1 victory against Tanzania. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring before Esther Okoronkwo sealed the late winner, offering head coach Justin Madugu a solid final assessment of his squad before competitive play kicks off.
In a celebratory nod to their unmatched continental legacy, the Nigeria Football Federation unveiled a special kit for the tournament featuring 10 stars wrapped around the national crest, one for each of their previous WAFCON titles.
Moral within the camp received a further lift on the eve of the tournament as the Federal Government confirmed the final settlement of long-awaited housing units and $100,000 cash rewards promised to the players following their previous championship run.
Nigeria begins its title defense in Group C against tournament debutants Malawi on Tuesday, July 28, at the Al Medina Stadium in Rabat, with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 PM WAT. The Super Falcons will remain at the venue to face southern African rivals Zambia on Saturday, August 1, before wrapping up group-stage action against Egypt at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, August 5.
With a star-studded lineup that includes Paris FC goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and veteran forward Asisat Oshoala, the defending champions enter the expanded 16-team tournament as firm favorites.
Beyond continental glory, the stakes are doubly high in Morocco, as all four semi-finalists will automatically punch their ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
