Swiss Midfielder Agrees Long-Term Contract as Freiburg Accepts Premier League Club’s Offer
Aston Villa are on the verge of completing the signing of highly rated Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi after reaching a verbal agreement with Bundesliga side Freiburg for a transfer fee worth slightly more than €60 million.
The Premier League club has also agreed personal terms with the player and his representatives, with both parties settling on a long-term contract ahead of the completion of the transfer.
The deal marks a significant statement of intent by Aston Villa as they continue to strengthen their squad under manager Unai Emery ahead of the new season.
Villa’s successful move comes after the player had attracted interest from several top European clubs, with Newcastle United previously linked with the midfielder. However, Aston Villa moved decisively to secure an agreement with both Freiburg and the player.
Manzambi is regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young midfield talents following his impressive performances for Freiburg.
His technical ability, composure on the ball, vision and versatility have made him one of the most sought-after young players in the transfer market.
The transfer is expected to become the biggest sale in Freiburg’s history and further underlines the growing financial strength and ambition of Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Only routine formalities, including a medical examination and the signing of final documents, remain before the club officially unveils Manzambi as its newest signing. The announcement is expected in the coming days.
