Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch a comprehensive investigation into the activities of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing the body as a fictitious organisation with no legal backing or government approval.
The President ordered the anti-corruption agency to conclude its investigation within 30 days and submit a detailed report on its findings.
According to the Presidency, the so-called PFIPC was never established by the Federal Government and has no foundation in any law, executive approval, presidential directive or official government instrument.
The investigation follows allegations that one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the council and claimed to be a presidential appointee.
The ICPC has been mandated to investigate the alleged forgery of appointment letters and other official government documents, the use of fraudulent presidential credentials to obtain official recognition and diplomatic support, including visa facilitation, as well as the opening of multiple bank accounts in the names of purported government agencies using suspected forged documents.
President Tinubu also directed investigators to identify all collaborators involved in the alleged scheme and determine whether any public officials, private individuals, financial institutions or intermediaries facilitated or enabled the operations of the fake council.
The probe will further examine the origin and use of forged government documents, the movement of any funds linked to the operation, and the circumstances that allowed the fictitious body to gain an appearance of legitimacy.
In addition, the ICPC has been instructed to identify loopholes in government procedures that may have been exploited and recommend urgent reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
All federal ministries, departments and agencies have been directed to cooperate fully with the commission by providing all relevant records and information required for the investigation.
President Tinubu stressed that the integrity of the Presidency and all government institutions must be safeguarded against impersonation, forgery and abuse of official identity, warning that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
