The Organized Labour in Ondo State has rejected the recently concluded Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) capturing exercise at the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH), declaring an indefinite strike over the alleged exclusion of labour leaders and several inherited workers from the exercise.
The decision was contained in an official circular issued in the early hours of Saturday, July 4, 2026, and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ondo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Okusanya.
The latest development follows two days of picketing by members of the Joint Unions at the teaching hospital.
The unions had shut down activities at the facility in protest against what they described as the unfair exclusion of inherited workers from the IPPIS capturing exercise after the hospital’s transition from the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH) to FUTATH.
Despite meetings between the Ondo State Government, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, and the leadership of Organized Labour aimed at resolving the dispute, the unions maintained that the IPPIS exercise conducted under the directive of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) failed to address their core demands.
Following what it described as exhaustive deliberations on the outcome of the exercise, the Organized Labour unanimously rejected the exercise, describing it as fundamentally flawed, discriminatory and grossly unfair to the affected inherited workers.
The labour movement also expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the Joint Unions in FUTATH, as well as affiliates of Organized Labour across Ondo State, for their unwavering solidarity throughout the struggle, noting that their support reaffirmed the labour principle that “an injury to one is an injury to all.”
Consequently, Organized Labour directed all affiliated unions in FUTATH, including the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI), National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)—to immediately mobilize their members for an indefinite strike.
The strike, according to the circular, will remain in force until a fresh, transparent, credible and all-inclusive IPPIS capturing exercise is conducted to ensure that every inherited worker is captured without exception.
The Organized Labour further directed all Joint Unions to forward copies of their notices of indefinite strike to the chairmen of the Organized Labour for proper documentation and coordinated implementation.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of workers, the labour movement urged all members to remain united, peaceful, disciplined and steadfast until their demands are fully met.
