•••Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to be reconstructed with concrete pavement as Dangote gets ₦1.83tn Niger highway under tax credit scheme
The Federal Government has approved road infrastructure projects worth approximately ₦3.94 trillion as part of efforts to improve transportation, boost economic activities and strengthen connectivity across the country.
The approvals were granted by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its meeting in Abuja, covering major highway projects in different parts of the country.
Among the flagship projects is the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which will be upgraded with concrete pavement to enhance durability, safety and long-term performance.
The Council also approved the construction of the 420-kilometre Agaie–Katcha–Baro road linking Niger and Kwara states under the Federal Government’s tax credit scheme.
The project, valued at about ₦1.83 trillion, will be executed by Dangote Industries Limited as part of the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme.
Other approved projects include rehabilitation and expansion works on strategic federal highways aimed at easing the movement of people and goods, reducing travel time and stimulating trade and investment across the country.
The Federal Government said the projects form part of its broader infrastructure development agenda designed to modernise the nation’s road network, improve regional integration and support economic growth.
It added that the investments are expected to create thousands of jobs during construction while enhancing access to markets, industries and agricultural communities.
Officials expressed optimism that the execution of the projects would significantly improve national connectivity and accelerate socio-economic development in line with the administration’s infrastructure priorities.
