Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council after Professor Obamuyi emerged first among 15 candidates interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board in accordance with the institution’s Act and extant regulations.
Professor Obamuyi, a renowned scholar of Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.
Announcing the appointment in a statement on Friday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the new Vice-Chancellor was selected on merit following a rigorous recruitment process.
Professor Obamuyi has served in several academic and administrative capacities, including as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
His academic achievements include being named the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa in 2015 by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius.
He has also served on National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation teams and as Chairperson and Subject Expert on the Review Panel of the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.
A respected academic with international exposure, Professor Obamuyi has presented research papers at conferences across Europe, North America, Africa and Asia, contributing significantly to scholarship in banking and finance.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor’s wealth of experience, administrative competence and research background would further strengthen AAUA’s reputation for academic excellence.
The governor urged Professor Obamuyi to uphold the university’s core values while promoting peace, innovation and collaboration among staff, students and other stakeholders.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting AAUA in maintaining its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities through sustained investment in quality education and institutional development.
