Hajiya Amina Abubakar, wife of the late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, has narrated the harrowing ordeal she suffered in the hands of armed bandits, revealing how she was shot and abandoned in the forest before being rescued by soldiers.
Sources familiar with her account disclosed that confusion broke out among the kidnappers shortly after the death of the former military officer, prompting the armed men to hastily prepare for their escape.
According to the sources, the bandits assembled motorcycles and fled their hideout in a convoy as security forces closed in on the area. Hajiya Amina was placed on one of the motorcycles and taken away through the forest.
In what appeared to be a calculated move, the kidnappers concentrated their efforts on evacuating her, leaving several other captives behind.
However, as they sped through the forest, sounds of gunfire from advancing troops reportedly sent the bandits into panic, forcing them to scatter in different directions.
Amid the chaos, the gunman transporting Hajiya Amina reportedly stopped, ordered her off the motorcycle and shot her in the thigh before abandoning her and fleeing into the forest.
The gunshot wound left her bleeding profusely and unable to move.
She reportedly remained stranded in agony until a villager stumbled upon her. After learning her identity, the man attempted to assist her, but fled when fresh gunfire erupted nearby, apparently from soldiers combing the area.
Moments later, troops arrived and discovered her lying in a pool of blood.
Sources said the soldiers were overjoyed when they realized that the wife of the late General Rabe Abubakar had been found alive.
The villager later returned and, with no medical evacuation equipment available, assisted the troops in improvising a stretcher with a wooden plank to carry her to a waiting military vehicle.
She was initially taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Katsina, for further medical attention.
Medical examinations revealed that the bullet passed through the flesh of her upper thigh without breaking any bone. Although the injury was not life-threatening, doctors said the severe loss of blood could have proved fatal had she not been rescued in time.
Her testimony offers a chilling account of the chaos that followed the death of her husband and highlights the dramatic military operation that ultimately saved her life.
