The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly raised an urgent security alert over an alleged plan by suspected criminal elements to carry out mass abduction of schoolchildren in Edo State, specifically targeting communities in Edo North Senatorial District.
The alert, which was said to have been transmitted to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other relevant security agencies, warned of possible coordinated attacks on schools within the axis, an area that includes the senatorial district of former Edo State Governor and current senator, Adams Oshiomhole.
Security sources disclosed that the intelligence report prompted increased surveillance and the deployment of operatives to vulnerable communities, schools, and transport routes across the affected local government areas.
Although official details remain limited, the warning is understood to be part of broader efforts by security agencies to forestall a repeat of recent school abduction incidents across parts of the country, which have triggered nationwide concern and renewed calls for enhanced protection of learning environments.
Residents in parts of Edo North have reportedly been advised to remain vigilant, while school authorities are said to be reviewing safety protocols in line with security directives.
The NSCDC has yet to issue a formal public statement on the alert, but security operatives are believed to be working in collaboration with the police, military, and local vigilante groups to prevent any potential attack.
The development comes amid rising anxiety over the safety of schools and rural communities in several states, as authorities intensify counter-kidnapping operations nationwide.
