Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a scintillating second-half display to overpower Senegal’s Lionesses 3-0 in an international friendly at Ikenne, sending a strong message ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
After a frustrating and uneventful first half, the nine-time African champions came alive after the break, with Joy Omewa emerging as the star of the evening.
The striker opened the scoring three minutes into the second half, heading home to give the Falcons the breakthrough before doubling the advantage in the 55th minute with a composed finish.
Veteran forward Asisat Oshoala completed the rout in the 66th minute, calmly converting after being set up by captain Rasheedat Ajibade.
The emphatic victory highlighted the team’s attacking quality and resilience after an uninspiring opening 45 minutes that saw the hosts struggle for rhythm and cohesion.
Defender Shukurat Oladipo impressed with a commanding performance at the back and contributed an assist, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie preserved the clean sheet with a superb late save.
Gift Monday also made a notable return, as the Super Falcons recovered from a sluggish start to deliver a dominant second-half performance that will boost confidence ahead of the continental showpiece.
Head coach Justine Madugu will, however, be aware that tougher tests await at WAFCON, despite the encouraging response shown by his side against the Senegalese visitors.
