The Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA) has commenced the distribution of appointment letters to over 930 newly recruited health professionals across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, in a move aimed at strengthening primary healthcare delivery in the state.
The exercise, which began at the agency’s headquarters in Akure, covers medical doctors, nurses, midwives, community health extension workers, laboratory scientists, pharmacy technicians, and health information officers, among others.
The new recruits are expected to fill critical manpower gaps in primary health care centres across the state.
Speaking during the flag-off, the Permanent Secretary of OSPHCDA, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, described the recruitment as a strategic intervention by the state government to improve access to quality healthcare at the grassroots.
He said the process was merit-based, transparent, and aligned with the state’s human resource health policy.
Dr. Akanbiemu commended the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for its commitment to strengthening the health sector, noting that the approval of the large-scale recruitment reflects strong political will to improve service delivery.
According to him, the newly employed health workers have completed documentation and will be deployed immediately to underserved and hard-to-reach communities to reduce patient waiting time, improve immunisation coverage, and enhance maternal and child health services.
He added that the administration has continued to prioritise healthcare through the revitalisation of primary health centres, provision of essential drugs, and training of health personnel as part of efforts to achieve universal health coverage in the state.
A total of 930 professionals were recruited in the first batch of the exercise, comprising 800 new staff alongside an earlier recruitment of 130 doctors and nurses.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the state government, describing the opportunity as life-changing and promising to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedicated and professional service.
The state government urged community leaders and ward development committees to support the new health workers and ensure a conducive environment for effective service delivery.
The Ondo State Government reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient health system that delivers quality and accessible healthcare to all residents.
